Italian mid-century teak wood Sideboard with Bar compartment attributable to Vittorio Dassi, 1950s
$8,000.00
Exceptional and highly refined Italian mid-century sideboard from the 1950s, attributable to the design of Vittorio Dassi and crafted in beautifully figured warm teakwood. This piece perfectly represents Dassi’s distinctive design language, combining elegant proportions, refined craftsmanship, and sophisticated functional solutions typical of his most sought-after works.
The sideboard is visually defined by the iconic slatted detailing known as grissinatura, a signature element of Dassi’s production, applied to the two drop-leaf doors on the right side. These finely executed vertical grooves add rhythm, depth, and visual movement to the façade, breaking the linearity of the design and enhancing its sculptural presence.
On the left side, two hinged doors open to reveal a spacious storage compartment fitted with an internal glass shelf, offering generous and practical storage. On the right side, the piece features a bank of drawers alongside two drop-leaf doors that conceal a beautifully conceived bar compartment. Inside, the bar is fitted with a newly made thick, angular glass shelf, elegantly finished with an unusual brass edging, and a striking scarlet-red glass base that creates a vivid chromatic contrast with the warmth of the teak and the brass details. This interior composition highlights the remarkable level of design and attention to detail that characterize Dassi’s work.
The sideboard is in very good vintage condition, with light signs of wear consistent with age and careful use, as visible in the images. All external wooden surfaces have been recently polished using traditional shellac, enhancing the depth and natural grain of the teak. The internal angular glass shelf and the red glass base have been faithfully remade, as the originals were found broken, ensuring both functionality and visual coherence with the original design.
Structurally sound and ready for immediate use, this striking and versatile sideboard is ideal for refined modern interiors, whether in a residential setting or in professional environments. A highly collectible and visually impactful example of Italian mid-century design by Vittorio Dassi.
